Hi All
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to send a fax through your computer, preferably for free. I used to be able to do this from my computer at work but I can't tell if my home computer has the facility. I do have scanner and would have scanned and emailed this but the beggers won't give me an email address just a fax number.
I need to send a fax out and the librabray want £1 a sheet.
Many thanks

If the computer has a modem (i.e. an old-fashioned dial-up one that connects to a phone line) you can download some fax sending software and use that. Assuming you can find some free software, you will only pay for the phone call.
Alternatively (and probably easier even if you have a modem), there are various email-to-fax and internet fax services. I used this one a few times: http://www.gradwell.com/phoneservices/faxemail but there are probably cheaper options out there.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon

The plain answer is yes if you have a dial-up modem a cable connecting the dial-up moden to your phone line then by using your scanner the dial-up modem and the software built into some versions of windows (certainly up to xp not sure if it is in W7 never looked).
Many older computers had dial-up modems built in to the computer.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
FreePopFax enables you to send faxes for free, no need to sign up just enter fax details on home page. When I sent a fax a few weeks ago it had adverts for FreePopFax along the top, right side and bottom - http://www.freepopfax.com/0

I tried popfax, the results were surprisingly unclear. You can't fax over VOIP/Skype as the call bandwidth is just too low, which is why faxes have to go over POTS. Can you just print and pop to a fax place? The results are massively better than the results I got with popfax at least. Or simply scan and email?0

Windows 7 does have a Fax and Scan, subject to having a suitable modem.Move along, nothing to see.0
