Windows xp 2012 antivirus fake---help virus

Initially windows xp 2012 xp warnings flashed up, ignored as were obviously fake and then it began to sink in that my pc has a virus... now the virus wont allow me to access any componant of my control panel, cant get in any of my files, cant download anything, cant access internet, cant even access my pics, many invaluable family pics :( Is my pc dead, or is there anypossibility of a comeback? Please help if you can. Im really rubbish with tech stuff, so can you please make any replies as pain free as poss, as my eyeballs are likely to lose sense of direction and my head explode if I have to pretend to know anything beyond the basics, kind regards :)

Dreaming is a pointless exercise if it only serves to reinforce your own limitations.
For my familys sake I no longer dream, I will plan and I will try and if I fail I will try and try again.
Failing is far better than dreaming. :)

Run G Data FakeAVCleaner “System Tool first and see if that clears it.
