My car radio is a new one but has great difficulty tuning and staying with a radio station. Even in a major town, I cannot normally get a clear reception of the local radio station.
How can I improve this? It has RDS but the instructions on setting up thiswere as clear as mud!
Would a new aerial help? I have a Mk4 Astra.
Thanks.

Make sure the Ariel you have is fitted correctly.
The ariel must have a good earth conection.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
You may have a short on your antenna lead or it is open circuit at the radio end at the rear of the radio. Here's what to do. Remove radio from the dash, don't remove any multi-cables. Either buy another cheapy antenna and plug it into the antenna socket. Take care that the antenna is not touching anything. Tune in radio. If it works then your existing antenna lead is faulty. Do this test away from your town. If reception is still poor, then your radio probably has a front end fault. Hope this helps.

It could be the RDS thingy, I had a similar problem, but when I switched it off everything was OKDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

When my new car stereo was fitted, there was an additional part required which I think was something to do with the aerial nedding to be powered, presumably to give it strength to pick up a good signal ?? Maybe you need this.0
