Ohh, maybe time for me not to ignore the mixed camera lots then....

It depends.... A lot of old cameras are in the same sort of category as Ford Anglias etc. They lost their value as practical items years ago so the advent of digital hasn't made much difference. Some of the old metal, mechanical Nikon, Pentax etc in excellent condition are still worth a bit but nothing like the original price! The condition makes a big difference because they are basically collectors items now. It's the plastic autofocus film cameras that are worth almost nothing.

Thank you, I car boot as well (as a dealer) and am often asked if i have any camera stuff..so I definitely will risk £5 or £10 on the next mixed box of cameras I come across. Interestingly at an auction last month they sold an old fashioned tripod camera with silver plates for £30 and I was quite shocked. The decorative and interest value alone seemed to be more than £30.
