I've found that the best method is to apply on line. They then send you the completed form for you to sign, and return with the payment. However I don't know if the check and send method is any quicker.

Thanks. I was about to do the online application this evening when I started to doubt whether the passports would be back in time. I figured a couple of days/week for them to print and post to me, then possibly three weeks for them to process with docs.

Wow that's quick! Did you do check and send?

    No I didnt

check and send ISNT a priority service despite many thinking it is
  • I've used check and send and it was quite quick - wasn't in a hurry though, just wanted to make sure I had filled in the forms right! Also that they would accept my friends hieroglyphics where she filled in the bit at the end about the kids photos looking like the kids...

I gather some photography shops will do digital photos there and then and make sure that they meet the requirements (which are very stringent these days), easier I think than lining kids up at the photo booth.

I used check and send and it took 1 week.

Interestingly the check and send guy at the Post Office said that the photo would be rejected (mouth slightly open, faint smile) but he agreed to send it anyway and put "advised" on my receipt. It went through OK.

And because it isnt (as I keep saying ) a priority service, it could also be slower
