I know the paper work is massive on the fire regs side of things.
One company I know of did fail a random test once and the crap was going to hit the fan BIG style for the directors. But as they did all their own in house testing and had evidence to back it up they where ok.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Manufacturers also use sales gimmicks (both bed manufacturers and spring manufacturers). So if you are as knowledgeable as you claim to be, then you would know that springs within springs, and multiple layers are just a gimmick.
Pocket springs should never bottom out when laying on the bed (or other bedroom ativities), unless the user is far too heavy for the mattress. In which case they were sold an unsuitable mattress in the first place. So as I said, springs within springs are a gimmick used to push the spring count up, and serve no purpose.
This design will cause the outer layer springs to bottom out, which actually makes it a bad design. Yet again it is just a gimmick to push the spring count up.
If you were at the top end of the trade, then you wouldn't need to use gimmicks at all.
Like I said, I used to work in a bricks and mortar store, and I can't agree with you, as so many customers were given a false sense of security by trying a bed in a store.

Guys. First of all thank you all for your advice. I proceeded with the order for the Deep Sleep Platinum 2000 and it arrived today. Looking forward to sleeping on it tonight (and for the next few years).
I will let you know how we get on as well.
Secondly, let's not turn this thread into arguments. We are all here to help each other. Everyone has different opinions, some may be right, some wrong but above all remain polite and courteous.
Thanks again

Your most welcome,
as for the arguments, it's nearly always going to happen when there's a difference of opinion, I sorry to say.

I am considering the purchase of a new mattress and was initially tempted to buy a memory foam mattress following a Groupon offer being advertised on behalf of Clouds. Having read some comments on here regarding that company and the quality of the product, I am now reluctant to make that purchase.
Admittedly, I have very little knowledge of what would be a good quality memory foam mattress so thought that this would be a way forward to research and learn more. I am still confused! What to buy and where to buy????
Being a complete lay(wo)man I had hoped that reading the various threads would help me in my quest to buy the perfect memory foam mattress.
I appreciate that there will be differences in opinions but I was 'put-off' by the bickering replies and tones of some threads. (Take it from me that is not at all helpful).
So, I am still in a quandry and obviously have to do more research before committing to a purchase.
Hopefully, someone might be able to direct me to some other useful threads/links/info that might just help me choose a good quality, not too expensive memory foam mattress.
Help! My partner and I are in need of a restful sleep.0 -
Unfortunately forums aren't the best place to get advice, because there will always be people with different opinions. You will find that most of the people who do have the knowledge will do so because they are, or have been in the trade. And with those who are still in the trade there will often be a tendancy to advise people towards the products they sell.
So if I were you I would do a search on google for advice, and then disgard all those sites that are owned by retailers, or that have external links to retailers.
Of course people will give advice on products that they sell, that's because they know about those products. It's quite hard to judge a product or company unless you have personal experience with them.
Even the independent trade will still push the stuff they sell, because it's there on the shop floor.

Hi, thanks for the advice re a google search. Have done that to gather some info. Also, visited a local store and gained some very interesting information from a very nice man who was not your usual pushy salesman. Gave me lots of information regarding the advantages of pocket sprung, pocket sprung + memory foam combinations. Now veering towards a pocket sprung only and abandoning the memory foam. Fickle female, I know.0 -
This thread is entitled Westminster mattresses and I found it because I did a Search on MSE for Westminster Beds. We are thinking of buying a Westminster Divan Bed (Chelsea 1500 pocket with memory foam). Does anyone have any experience of these beds and can you recommend or not. It is on line for a better price but of course no chance to try it out."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0
