Hello.

Just wanting to know how much does it normally cost for electricity (based on my conditions*) for a month, and also for a year?... so i can work out how to save/how much i can save etc...

PS about to move into new flat/apartment

*
  • medium sized flat (1 studio bedroom)
  • no gas so just electricity
  • have central heating..but probably wont be using it as much (except winter times)
  • cook occasionally for dinner (every second day perhaps)
  • will be working 9 - 6 so only time in house is evening where lights are on etc... but i guess no usage when asleep.
  • TV operating perhaps every day
  • have lots of tech gadgets so constant charging

obv i know exact amount varies from people to people but what i'm looking for is an expert estimate/guess so i can have a rough idea...

No gas, but central heating?-what sort of CH do you have then?
Electric CH is very expensive. Or are you on E7?
How do you heat your hot water?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

About to move in..so haven't really moved in yet.

Was told theres no gas. I've seen radiators so i presume its Electrical CH. How expensive is it? I dont know if i am on E7 or not.. Havent set up utilities yet...i n process of doing so..

There's a boiler in the flat. So i guess thats how hot water is heated up:cool:

If you don't know, I suggest you ask the agent?
This kind of basic info should be in the written particulars surely?
Electric non- E7 heating and hot water will be extremely expensive compared to other methods.

Can you easily tell if its E7 or non-E7? If Expensive - how much more than other methods?

If it's E7 you will have two meter readings.

E7 is usually used for night storage heaters running on cheap rate E7 power to heat them up overnight (and to heat your hot water tank). Electric CH (which if you have a boiler and not just a hot water tank) will run on standard rate electricity at around 10p per kWh. E7 rate is around 4p per kWh-but the downside is that all peak rate consumption is charged at a higher rate.
There are various forms of electric CH, so without knowing exactly what system is installed no-one can really give you any proper info.

If it's any use, I used 7250kWh last year in my old studio flat, although it didn't have electric central heating - just panel heaters, and I wasn't on an E7 tariff. On my current tariff (BG Websaver 12, in Scottish Hydro area), this would cost £762 a year, or £63.50 a month. You might want to have your direct debit a bit higher than that just to be safe, though!
