Key safes

Are there any insurers that will insure you if you have a key safe? A friend of mine wants one and her insurance policy says it will be invalid if she has one. Is this normal? She really does need a key safe.

(For those that don't know, a key safe is a box next to a door with a front door key in it and buttons on the box and you enter a code to get the key out. They're used by people who need carers to come in.)

Yes key safes are very good and secure.

I have not seen exclusions on policies related to them, so it may be that when it was explained, the Insurers customer services advisor, just gave an opinion. Suggest that she either writes to them with full details or phones them asking for this to be referred to underwriters, so that a proper response can be provided.

If not depending on age, AgeUK, SAGA, RIAS would probably be more sypathetic. Or if they don't qualify, they might wish to contact a local broker or an Insurers that has a relationship with any medical condition charity organisation that is relevant.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

What insurer does not like them?
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

I don't know, but she phoned up and told me they wouldn't cover her so she refused a key safe, but I think she really needs one. That way, the crisis team would be able to get in when she's unwell. I thought that if I could say that there are firms out there that would cover her, she'd be more likely to accept the key safe.

I had one fitted at my dad's place....he had Alzheimers and had carers calling twice a day....called the insurers.....SAGA... (Age Concern told me to...I would have never given it a thought to be honest) and it was a case of "why are you telling us.....the place is still secured even if the safe was taken off the wall it cannot be opened".

You may have had an over zealous person on the phone.
