PCW is possibly the worst place on the planet to buy a new computer, for business or home, full stop. Go anywhere else.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Argos are doing a acer pc for £299 has no monitor though

If the budget is rigid, you can get the same PC as a shop return here for £254 and spend the extra on the monitor.
These machines aren't really designed for business use, as they will have a lot of useless software installed, slowing down the system.
That would need to be uninstalled. What about an on-site maintenance warranty?
Is there someone in the office who can take care of these things in the absence of such a contract?0 -
With my experience I would not buy from Argos, especially as a business.
If the computer failes it will have to be taken back to the local argos who will send it away for 2weeks - 3months, and then give it you back.
If they have a replacement they will not give you as you have used the product.
If they fail to fix it then they will just destroy your work and you start again.
Personally I would choose a local computer shop (repairs will be done in a day or 2), they would be advertised in local newpapers or there used to be a magasine called micromart (probably online now).0 -
I bought that exact Argos Acer for my wife and it's great (the hot swap drive bay that they don't bother to tell you about sold it for us). However, do not buy it as a business computer - it's packed with no-brand components and has a very dubious 1 year returns policy.
Mind you, that hot-swap drive bay makes for easy backup if it does go wrong. Just jam in any old SATA drive from an old computer.
Expanding on Santer's Novatech suggestion, you're looking at something like £430 (inc operating system, VAT & Del). Definitely worth spending a little more on the monitor IMO as 18.5" widescreens are tiny.
£90 Novatech nVision Pro 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor
£340 Gamma - AMD X2 255 AM2 Processor - 4GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory - 500GB SATA Hard Drive - DVD Writer - Onboard ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics - Windows 7 Home
For another £28 you can upgrade the monitor to a Novatech 24". But as you've overspent already . . .0
