It's marvellous news that you've won so much money from a legitimate UK source which (inexplicably) seemingly pays out in Japanese yen.

However, I'm tired of all these illiterate bonkers scams from illiterate bonkers scammers. Which is why I'm indebted to the bloke who sent me an email yesterday warning that *all* prize draws and *all* 'unclaimed funds in Nigeria' are scams. Amazing!

The sender then (very generously, I thought) went on to say that instead of responding to any unexpected email (well, except for his unexpected email) I should get in touch with the FBI Online Fraud Monitoring Division , Washington DC, and deal with agent Williams Humphrey.

Mr Humphrey is the Senior Special Agent In Charge and Knows Everything. Not only that (said the guy who wrote to me) Mr Humphreys has the FBI's authenticated list of *genuine* prize draws / lottery wins / and unclaimed international funds, against which he will check your name / your email addy.

He did this in the case of the bloke who wrote to me. Lo and behold: the FBI discovered my new-found friend had won $250,000 in a lottery he didn't even know he'd entered! Yay!

So. There ya go. Treat every unsolicited email you receive as a scam, because it will be -- unless you check with the FBI. Then, as like as not, you'll find you *have* won ooodles of money, and the FBI will arrange for it to be transferred to you. . .

. . . though a couple of points are perhaps worth bearing in mind:

    (1) the FBI charges a handling fee for unclaimed lottery winnings / reclaimed international funds. The fee is payable in advance, though never exceeds $500. And, um:

    (2) The Washington DC email address of the Special Agent In Charge of the FBI's worldwide drive to stamp out scammers is williams_humphrey@fbigov.com_kz.

Well yes, I know, the FBI could have decided that Kazakhstan is a more scenic location for its headquarters, but, but, but. . .

    ;)

And what is PC Phil meant to do with a scam which more than likely came from outside the country from a hijacked PC?

I don't know who PC Phil is, but your local police station will be able to pass the details on to their serious crime unit and it will be investigated as appropriate.

was in 2 minds whether or not to hit the thanks button on this for making me laugh soooooo much. OMG the police have much better things to do with their time than look into this and just what do you say to them, I can see it now

"operator, which service do you require"
    "police please"
......."yes caller, what is your emergency?"
"well......I got this email, and it say's I've won the lottery, but I didn't enter"
    *silence*
"and I think it might be a scam, but I'm not sure"
    *silence*
"so could you pass this onto your serious crime squad because they need to do something so someone diesn't fall for it"
"sir, this is an emergency number, your call is not an emergency, please do not do this again and leave us to our donuts, thank you"
    *hangs up*

Now I know you didnt sugggest calling 999, but really, the police! the point of this forum is to WARN people of these scams in an open forum rather than wasting precious police time and resources on a fruitless endeavor hence the name

This is a criminal scam. If you don't report it to the police, it will simply continue.

Funniest thing I read all day, are you for real?
