Hi, i was wondering what other people thought off this, i have been off ill a few times in the last 2 yrs and when you have to call in that morning to say so, my boss aint exactly nice, i work in the auto trade cleaning the cars and when you do call in how can i put it? well, he goes nuts shouts and swears at you telling you that your letting the whole garage down saying that they were really counting on you to be there that day, shouts and swears again and tells you to ring in again in the afternoon when again if you say you dont think you will manage in the next day you go through the same routine over the phone.I know that the guy i work along with he lives not to far from the work and the boss has been know to send someone along to their house and has also demanded that he return to work in the afternoon which he did and could not do his job for being so ill.
Is this really aloud/normal...?

Nope its not on but you do say you have been off a few times, how many is a few because the average amount of sickness in a year is something like 6 days so if yours is 2 or 3 times this amount then its understandable that they are not happy.........however they should go about it alot better. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

he had said to a work colleage that i was off twice in 3 months, but then i dont choose to be ill, i would rather be at work and in a job, i like my work and dare i say it i am good at it. another guy at the work broke his arm and was off work so the boss said can you just come in and answer the phones? so he did but never got anything extra for it, just SSP...0

I would say this constitutes harrassment/bullying, which is totally unprofessional and unacceptable.
I had M.E. when I was in my 20s, and if I rang in sick they would say things like "Well, when do you think you will feel better, we have a business to run you know". Thankfully I am out of that place now.0 -

He was hassled to come into work and only got SSP. Doesnt the employer get SSP reimbursed off the Gov. or something. Feel free to correct me if im wrong but surely this would be fraud.0 -

Bang out of order to only pay SSP if the guy came in and worked, the employer accepted a change in duties for the employee so should have paid him as normal.
And twice in 3 months isn't that bad if that was it for the last two years. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I don't think that all employers get SSP back, but the person should have been paid their normalm payThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Agree the behaviour of the boss is totally unacceptable regardless of how many times you have been absent. Do you have a copy of your HR absence policy or can you obtain one? It should detail the process the employee and employer need to go through to manage sick absences0
