router problem?

We have x 4 pc's running off a wired router. They have been going slower and internet went down at midnight last night. Traced to router after conversations with virgin. Installed new netgear router FS108 which should just plug and play. Now we have x1 working computer and x3 don't! Any clues what to look for pls?

The Netgear FS108 is not a router, it's a network switch, you have bought the wrong thing. A switch goes after a router i.e.:

    Cable modem>>>router>>>switch>>>PC's etc.

As most routers have four LAN ports you only need a switch if you have five or more devices to connect by Ethernet cables.

Make sure you tell PC World you want a 'cable' router and not ADSL or as PCW put it BT router.

Something like the Netgear WNR1000, not a recommendation but a suggestion, but I do use Netgear kit myself.

New heights (or depths) of incompetence from PCW. You asked for a cable router (or a router to work with VM cable service) and they sold you a network switch?
Do take your business elsewhere in future.
