PC DVD/CD Reader struggles to read discs....

I have an excellent ASUS desktop which has developed an annoying habit.

It struggles to read CD/DVD full of music, some of which it has even burned/copied itself.

I have shedloads of MP3 albums on dvds that it used to read but now just says the discs are blank which is very frustrating.

Have I done something to it ? Have the discs deteriorated ? Can I do anything about it ?

I tried to copy a couple of discs last night but it just wouldn't read them and I had originally burned them on the same machine !!

Any help would be good and as always, thankyou in advance.
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

it could be the drive itself at fault -- does happen over time -- try giving the tray a good clean -- and sometimes a complete removal and back in situ helps .

Sadly it is integrated so there is no tray and neither can it be removed !

Good thinking - I think I have one kicking around somewhere.
