INR and sorting office

This is a new one on me - just had the dreaded INR and the seller, thankfully is being professional - he's said that sometimes RM keep back large items that don't go through letter boxes (although in our case that's pretty unusual as we mostly get things left on our secluded side doorstep) and asked me to contact the sorting office.

Not having done this before...where would I find the number of the sorting office? Or find out what our local system is? Is it by searching on the RM site? Sounds simple but when you come to do this for the first time - in nine years on eBay, pretty good going tbh - it's a bit of a puzzle.

I think the depot used for our mail is Hook in north Hampshire but I have no idea as apparently it changed relatively recently.

Our sorting office number is in our local Telephone directory. You could try just a google search. I must admit RM holding back items that dont fit through letter boxes, that sounds like a bit of a myth. Even if they did they would attempt to deliver at some point.

They don't hold them back. In fact, the regulators would give them pelters for doing so. A red card would have been left.

I've never heard of them keeping back large items either but I suppose it might happen at some sorting offices.

If you have problems getting through to the sorting office on the phone (mine hardly ever answer) ask your postie to have a look for any larger packages for you.

It's only a book - granted, it's a doorstopper, but it's no bigger than a lot of other paperback books of that format and genre.

The Victorian medical almanac I bought was bigger than this ought to be and yet still turned up fine yesterday. (Lots of fascinating views on sex...!!!)

Anyway, I'll see what happens on Monday when I ring that number, might as well at least try, but if they delivered the Family Physician fine they can deliver The Quincunx.
