Hi all
I came ot use my ipod last night and it just won't switch on ! I believed there was some power in it although it had been in my bag and could have discharged (wouldn't be the first time).

I put it on charge but no sign of life. I toggled the hold button back and forth and tried a few time - no life

I have tried resetting it (usually works) but - no life

It has been pulled into the wall socket all night and tried the about - no life

It was fine the other day when I used it...

Anyone got any other suggestions to get it back to life ?

It's 3-4 years old now FYI

Without knowing the exact model of your Ipod I can't give specific advice, but a hard reset of your device should resolve the issue.

Either let me know the model or take a gander here and choose the appropriate course of action.

Not sure how to find out the model. It's an Ipod nano 16gb one of the longish thin ones...I have it in my head that its a 3rd generation..

    Is that enough info ?

  • Hi, not too sure if this will help you (i had to do this once with my iphone when it decided to die). Anyway, try holding both the power button and the middle button of your disk bit at the same time for at least 5 seconds or until it wakes up again (this is supposed to reset it). Not too sure whether this will work for you but hopefully it will. Fingers crossed. x

There are three generations of iPod nano that meet that physical description (long/thin) but only two of them were available in 16gb sizes the 4th and 5th generation of iPod Nano.

Whether or not you have 4th/5th gen, the hard-reset procedure remains the same...

    1. Make sure it is charged up
    2. Slide the hold button into the hold position then back again.
    3. Press and hold the Centre and Menu button together for 10 seconds.
    4. iPod should reset.

For future reference an easy way to tell if you have a 4th or 5th generation is if it has a camera on the back or not. If it has a camera it is a 5th gen, if it doesn't it is a 4th gen. :D

Ok its a 4th generation then as no camera.

This is where I think the issue maybe in that I wondered if the battery has discharged in my bag but when I plug it into the main or my laptop there is still no sign of life..or charging I eft it on charge again overnight and have tried the above but still there is not sign of life.

Could this be some kind of batter problem ? I would really like to get it working again as I take it will me alot especially when I am travelling and I love my ipod nano

Have you tried connecting it to your PC/Laptop via USB? Does it show up in itunes at all?

If you can get it to show up there then you can perform a full restore of the iPod.

If you still can't get it working then you might want to consider bringing it into your nearest apple store. They are usually very helpful and should be able to offer you free advice on how to proceed.

Yes I have tried that but it is not showing up in itunes either. Ok I will see if there is an apple store near me.

    Thanks
