Hi there...not very techy when it comes to routers so wondered if anyone can help me.
I'm using AOL on my desktop on the silver package but hoping to get a laptop in the New Year. I obviously want to use AOL on laptop but when i was asking about routers in Comet I was told that I'd only be able to use one called Netgear or something. Is that right....they seem a bit pricey. There seem to be so many different ones i dont know what to look for. Is it easy to set up and what else should i be looking for.
Also I think I read somewhere that you can get rid of all the junk that AOL put on the PC but still able to connect to them...is that right too and how do i go about it?..many thanks in advance for any help...

i think the routers they give away are the netgear dg834g.
i use this router, it was very easy to set up and has been a very reliable router0 -
Thanks...but dont they just give them to new customers..i mean I've been with them for nearly a year now. Hmm...just noticed that silver is only £14.99 a month...wonder why i'm paying £17.99...is that just an introductory offer or something?0

Try ringing them on these free numbers 08002006245 or 08002796771. Tell them that you don't think that you are getting good value from AOL any more and is there anything that they can do. Others have had a free wireless router and £9.99 per month. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Ring them up an haggle/threaten to leave if they say no.
Say you would like a Free router and a price reductionEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
be careful with AOL and wireless/network connectivity - Ive been with AOL a while, and it was a total nightmare to set up. Also - have you checked your package - Im sure only certain packages allow netowrking on AOL??
sorry if you've checked this already, or if its changed recently
I have no more money to give - all you companies out there - do your worst - I give in!!

I agree, mine came off ebay but in an AOL box and hasn't missed a beat0 -
Back again, got in touch with AOL at last and basically if I ask again in a couple of weeks time they will reduce my bill to £14.99 (not as good as £9.99 but a start) and send a free wireless router. Only reason why they cant do it now is that I've only been with them for 9 months 2 weeks...and you have to have been in the contract for 10 months minimum...
Thanks for all the good info you gave me...:beer:0
