Pull Switch Light is stuck..

Hi...our bathroom light pull switch decided to break last night, and seeing as the head gasket on the car went yesterday, and....oh, its Christmas, I really can't afford to have to get an electrician in just so I can turn the light off!!!
Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to replace the pull switch unit....I don't know much about wiring etc, but I have successfully replaced a light fitting in the past, so not a complete novice!
Thanks, in advance

If you can replace a light fitting you can replace a pull switch - much the same sort of job. Isolate mains supply of course before you do it.0

All you will be doing is replacing like for like. Just Isolate the power 1st. Next undo the screws holding the light switch to the ceiling and look see where the wires go to (draw a diagram if needs be) then put up the new one. If you have done basic wiring before (sockets etc) you will find this as easySmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

If its the dome type where the string goes through the middle, then
SWITCH OFF THE MAINS!
make sure no other lights work too double check.
unscrew the dome and let it drop down the string.
there is a rocker switch in side see if you can move it to free it up.
never use oil.
take a piccie with a digital camera (if you've got one...)
this will help in identifying a replacement at the diy and will show where the wires go.
Screw the dome on, whilst you go for a replacement.
To replace, unscrew dome, unscrew the wires (note where they go).
there should be a couple of wood screws holding the switch to the ceiling, undo these and remove.
Replace the fitment with the new one , threading the wires thro the holes first. Screw to the ceiling and attach the wires as per your diagram/piccie.
attach your string (did I tell you to buy a new string)
TURN THE MAINS ON.
AND let somebody else try the lights (BANG! )0
