What makes you think it's AceBot in particular?

    Save this to the desktop:
    http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/beta/HijackThis.exe

Then from the desktop, hold LEFT SHIFT and then RIGHT CLICK on Hijackthis, then select either 'Run as Administrator' or 'Run As' (Current User, and untick the 'protect me'.

From there, do SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE LOG. It'll bring up a bunch of settings which is normal, and it should come up in Notepad. Just copy paste everything from notepad to here.

Thanks. I have been virtually unable to use the PC as it's getting worse and got blue screen this morning. From what I came across online the Dr Watson is a legitimate part of windows protection though rarely seen but a common occurence when Acebot is the problem. Everything I've since found on Acebot rings the bells.
I'm going to try what you've suggested here. Generally good local place I rang is talking about wiping the hard drive but that's going to cost me and my legal office 03 was taken and lost by my dear son 3 years back so I'd have to buy 07 or use Open office.

I think I screwed it up as it downloaded and I ran it before completeing your instructions.
Here's what it got but I maybe better try and do it again as I didn't run as user protect me unticked or get to that..

Just copy paste everything from notepad to here.

exactly as per your instructions this time:

Thanks if you can find time to look at it now as I've been offline for 2 days.

Looks okay with a quick look through, I'd TICK and FIX these:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AF69DE43-7D58-4638-B6FA-CE66B5AD205D} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDBD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file)

I'll be back and look closer, but got to head out. I don't think this is malware related.

I did FIX on those and a new folder appeared on my desktop called backups. It has 3 files 1kb each which mean nothing to me in there.
After that I tried to come back and say thanks to you and had real problems with getting the cursor to let me at this answer box! I think I'm getting paranoid now but it's firing up and doing things at times then I lose function or it crashes after that. It's not just freezing.

I installed 2G new memory recently. If that was faulty could this be the problem? It doesn't seem like memory limits though. Also thanks again mucho mucho for helping.
I owe you a virtual beer in a virtual bar somewhere.

Could easily be the memory - you could try taking it out and seeing if the problems go away. Also try reseating it.

    I really don't think it's malware.

Alternatively, uninstall Avast, and then use the remover tool afterwards:
    http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe

    Install MSE instead, http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspx

    Thanks.
I'll try fiddling with the new RAM first then.
