There's a green one near us on a semi detatched bungalow, I think it's painted though rather than the tiles actually being green themselves. I think it looks awful, would hate to be joined onto someone who done that. Being a bungalow it's also very visible, on a 2 storey house it would be higher and not so much in view.

There are lots with green roofs in the Paignton and Brixham area. It is possible that green suits a certain style of house. But they are proper green tiles, nice looking ones, in my view anyway.

Can't comment because I've never seen real green tiles, but I guess there's no reason they wouldn't be nice if they are good quality etc. Lol would probably be better than ours anyway which are half moss anyway!!

Red and grey tiles or natural slate seem to be the norm in my area.

That's about the price I thought it "should" cost. With the weather we have been having recently I would have thought it would take 5 days but that may be conservative.

In theory I would have thought they could get the scaffolding up and the roof stripped in one day - maybe I am being naively optimistic!"!

Going back to the OP - if the roof is as bad as it sounds and is leaking now is the time to get it done.

    Don't pay 9K though!!

We have a few houses down here with those. Personally I quite like them. They suit grand but discreet deco detached properties. Which is what that looks like.

Absolutely hate the chimney though - does it not just look like a penis!?

I also hate the purple tiles which are quite popular down here.

lol, about the chimney - never noticed that.

Yes, the green suits that house because the wood is also painted green etc. Can't imagine a purple roof though.

Just a thought - but surely if a roof is leaking - won't the wooden beams need replaced as they might be rotten, so it's not just a case of removing and replacing the tiles. We got our gutters and fascia replaced last year and some wet rot was noted and treated at the time, and our roof wasn't actually leaking (although gutters were in a terrible state). I'm thinking that when the tiles are removed there might be more repair work needed.

Check your house deeds - some estates had a clause in the deeds restricting the roof tiles to a particular colour - ours ironically for you specifies the grey ones. On a 1930's house I'd be surprised if there was such a clause but it is worth checking as its a lot cheaper to get it right than to put it right!

You are right about that. If is leaking that badly I would have thought the wood would be !!!!!!ed.

What the OP needs to do is get a quote for all the materials and labour.

I noticed a block of flats that had a green roof earlier. It looks OK in context.

re roofed our 1930's semi around 5 years ago for less than half the price of op quote. because of the price of replacing with clay we replaced with concrete tiles, similar colour and shape to existing tiles. we had to have building regs. a quick phone call to your local council should give you the answer if you also need building regs
