ooo madam, your courgettes are furry.

Hi all,

This is my first attempt at growing my own and we have some belting Courgette plants in the garden. The problem however is that Powdery mildew seems to have ripped through them and every plant is affected. Does anybody know of any way to treat this without having to resort to chemicals?

I'm not sure these a way to treat it, even if you did resort to chemicals. For what its worth your not the only one this year.

I would pick off the infected leaves and harvest the courgettes as soon as they are of a decent size.
  • this happened to my cucumber plant i just got from aldi- i took the lower leafs off so got my fingers crossed it survives:o

I'm still waiting for mine to grow, so far they are at the flowering stage, how long before you start turning into the veg?

If caught early enough this is very effective :)

    Hi all,
I use any milk [only skim in my house!] However, ds3 ,in germany, uses semi, and it works for him so i would say whatever you have [he has uht ]
and we have used it on any plant with powdery mildew, including a clematis ,in his case, successfully.
    Hope this helps anyone,

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I've lopped the leaves off and moved the plants. My RHS app says the cause is dry soil and humid air. They were in a corner which I think aggravated it. The four surviving plants are in the middle of the garden where the air can circulate around them. I'll also give them a milk bath :)

My grown your own hasn't done so well ha ha My strawbs have loads of lush green leaves but no fruit and my cherry tom plants are just starting to fruit but are looking a bit unhappy about it!

On the plus side the Basil's gone mental and has filled the kitchen with white flowers and the scent of fresh herbs mmmm
