According to the great God Google a 1.5hp single speed pump will consume between 1500 and 2000 watts per hour.
So being pessimistic 2 Kw x 12 pence = 24pence/hour.
Do these things run 24/7?
Thats around £5 /day ouch!!That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
1 HP equals 746 W, thus 1.5 HP = 1119 watts
So depends how long you run it, one hour is 12.89 p per hour
Call it 13p per hour and you will not have a nasty surprise

Yes they have to run all the time. I run 4!! ,2 0f them with UV bulbs in and no way does it cost me that !!
That would work out at £140 per month just for the pumps alone.
I cook with electric and have an electric shower. My total gas and electric cost me around £80 per month.
Having read the op again i realise they are probably talking swimming pool ,not pond.Never worked mine out wattage wise.0 -
They don't have to run all the time. They only need to filter the water once per day. Twice if the pool is used quite a bit. You could install solar panels using the governments FIT's to pay for it and run the pump during daylight hours. It will then filter all the water for free.
If you don't want to install solar panels you can have the pump run at night on cheap E7 rates. Your electric supplier will help you install a meter for that.:footie:
