Price to replace rear bearings on Nissan Note
following the service at Kwik fit (dont say it), the man has rang to say that when he took the rear drum off to check it, the bearings collapsed.
clearly, we have no idea what this means or even if the terminology is correct, im saying what my partner says the man said and this may not be reliable(!)
however, the price is 129 for the collapsed bearing and 70 odd to replace the other one so that they are changed at the same time
is this about the right price, what does it all mean, the car was fine when it was dropped off although obviously it could have been waiting to happen
car hasnt been screeching or anything

oh dear. How old and what mileage is the car? The Note is a fairly recent model isn't it? and have you been using it for rally driving..?
As you know in your heart you have been had, the Kwik-Fleece ape has either knackered it taking it apart or it doesn't need doing at all.
Same with your brake fluid (unless due on the service schedule), if it were me, I would pay up enough to get the car back in one piece before they destroy something else, and consider myself lucky I have not ended up with 4 tyres and God knows what else I didn't need. Put it down to experience and Never, ever, ever take a car to Kwikfit again.
You could run around getting second opinions and trying to get things done cheaper, contacting VOSA and trading standards and so on as many will probably advise you to but thats easy to say when your spending someone else's time, I bet like mine your time and energy are valuable... run, or drive away - assuming Kwik fit can actually ever make the car work properly again.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -
Not sure if the Note has one piece rear drums/hubs, it probably does, it seems to be par for the course in modern small cars.
Ninenty nine times out of hundred when you remove the rear drum/hubs of any car they slide off the stub axle without a problem, once in a while the inner bearing gets stuck to the axle and then falls apart when the hub comes off....this will sound familiar to owners of Hyundai Coupe/Elantra when changing front discs..;)
Just one of those things really, the price quoted for the new bearing sounds about right for a new complete hub/drum..though considerably cheaper than a genuine Yaris part @ approx £225 a side...bearing not replaceable at all.
One thing that's puzzling though is the price for the replacement bearing the other side...which may not need doing anyway...the price quoted for that leads me to believe a replacement bearing kit is available, if so why can't the bearing simply be replaced on the current side.
Ask them for an explanation why this is the case, it might be that the bearing was breaking up and has damaged the hub this side, they may well show you the problem if you ask them.0
