Yes it is my inbound mail I get the same message for both tesco mail and wanadoo. I do not understand what you mean by "check the server names for the POP3 server are the same"0 -
Compare your SMTP and POP3 settings in Outlook Express with those in Thunderbird. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thats it! I turned off Zone Alarm and tried a test message to myself and it worked. Now to figure out how to allow Thunderbird in ZA0

When I upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird, ZA did not ask whether or not to allow access, it seems to have just blocked it!0

It now transpires that there are other problems associated with the latest version of Thunderbird (1.5.0.9) text only is displayed without the usual option "click here to download images". When I click on a link in an email although my browser is opened (Opera) the page to which the link refers is not opened. I have just uninstalled Thunderbird and re-downloaded and installed again but the problems persist.
Edit: now sorted, another conflict with Zona Alarm I removed Thunderbird from ZA's list of programs, restarted Tbird and ZA asked for permission to access the trusted zone. Now all OK0
