The OP has already confirmed in post #31 that they will not be lying about any car they buy so I think we should stop discussing the matter as it's going nowhere. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Top and bottom of it is, if the OR thinks you BS'ing then hes going to look deeper into you affairs, or be more determined to find something. If I lose the car hey ho, life goes on. I have had enough grief in my life over last few months I want this to go as smoth as possible, even if it means I lose my car.
Anyway thanks for the advice guys, I've deceide to stop paying the HP as of now, and I will save the money towards a car and use what I need from my savings and buy one before I go BR. The left over in my savings will be declaired to the court.

no problems steve, hope things work out for you. I was just pointing out an alternative, but ultimately you have to do what you are comfortable with.0

No worries mate, I'm sure there will be a few white lies along the way, but I dont think the big things are worth lieing about.

I was honest about the wifes car and had to go to war with the OR about it. Basically I bought it new for her in 2003 and at the same time treated myself to a new jag. Paid hers off 3 years later, and let the jag go back when the contract expired. Anyway, whilst I paid for the car as she doesnt have a job, but looks after the kids, it has always been in her name, it was a present. I dont use it as I have alternatives. When the OR asked me about it, they tried to claim it was mine. This went back and forth for a couple of months before I got my way. I dug my heels in as I believe they were totally wrong. If however I had lied and said I needed it for work, there wouldnt have been a problem.0

Whilst not trying to be derogatory....why does everyone seem so hung up around 'losing', or 'being allowed' a car in BR?
The issues of car usage centre on [a] whether there is argument to have it exempted as an asset, or
if not the above, then can the OR's interest in the car be negotiated and purchased?
If the former, then running costs can be included within the SOA.
If the latter, then some of the running costs can be sourced from normal domestic transport costs [bus fares to work, etc]...
In my previous post I suggested buying a really cheap car......?
This logic is for the reason that, if the value is low, and the vehicle already in use, then the value of the OR's interest can be negotiated [away from the purchase cost, hopefully]....the outcome being, a car that is cheap, but perhaps cost the BR a little bit more to keep?
A bit of a different story if a grand or more has been spent buying the car in the first place??No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
some people do make me laugh in life. Look for whatever reason, be it your own fault, misfortune or a mixture of both, people commenting here are or have been in a financial mess. The fact the OR is in charge of your finances for a period, doesnt make him God and nor does it make him right in every decison. If the guy in the OP needs a vehicle to see his children and there is some doubt whether the OR will let him have one, I personally would say screw the OR and find a way around it. Lifes too short to stress about the smaller details. As I mentioned, if you withdrew the cash, bought a car in someone elses name, but told the OR (if asked) that stress over the financial problems had bought on depression and you had to get away for a week. You backed this up by having evidence of visiting the doctor, what exactly is he or can he do, absolutely nothing. Its a game, play it or you'll forever be one of lifes also rans.
I have to sit back and agree with this. People can be far too honest. Never fear the official receiver, just a person and usually they aren't that bright. I didn't borrow money for months before declaring bankruptcy, I never saw it as an option. But I still spent right up until the day, and continued afterwards. My bills were covered, my rents and fuels. As far as I was concerned I wasn't being governed by anyone, not that I was hiding anything, but you get me.
I have always been annoyed with the process and vehicles. As long as it's a paid for and cheapish car, it should be untouched. Public transport is too unreliable and expensive outside of a major city, it's not impossible to use but why make life harder if you can use a car and be easy?0 -
