EDF scam or not?

As I opened my house door, on my way to pick-up my wife from work I was confronted by guy with credentials purporting to be of EDF.
I told him that I was not interested in moving from my current supplier as I collect Tesco points that I can convert into AIRMILES.
He had never heard of this.
We went through the Smoke and Mirror routine and after I told him that I paid £66 per month (actually, I had been notified that my monthly DD was being increased - but did not tell him this) he told me that if I switch to EDF for both gas and electricity that I would pay £60 per month, locked until 2014.
Is this correct, or is it an EDF scam?

Have you checked with a couple of comparison sites?
What you pay monthly is irrelevent. What is important is how much you use and what it will cost.
Martin is recommending you lock into a capped/fixed tariff before prices rise.

No they offer a fixed tariff until march 2014 that is one of the dearer products now available but does protect you going forward of future price increase, all providers offer a fixed rate, so if you are on avariable rate deal with current provider at £66 shortly to increase no way £60 will cover it on their fixed march 2014, classic door to door salesman tactic, and in respect of the clubcard deal course he's never heard of it what his competitors offer is no interest to him, his interest is in what you are going to do for him, sign up and earn him his commision!0

I have just moved our electricity to EDF and fixed until September 2012 because I felt it was not worth the gamble to fix until 2014. Even though we were previously on the cheapest tariff that was available to us, the increase is less than 2%, yet to fix until 2014 was well over 20% (payable right away, don't forget!).0
