Brake Disc Skimming

Why one disc?0
-
Your attitude doesn't engender help, but why do you want to do that? It is cheap enough to buy new discs and the potential problems with cracking and distorting rise when you do something like thatI would like to live in Theory, because everything works there0
-
New discs would probably be cheaper than getting the old ones skimmed, also skimming makes them thinner so substantially reduces their life so you would need to change them anyway.0

Get an empty box of these
Use the old disc as a template.0 -
OP has his reasons.
For stuff like that I'd just go to the nearest industrial estate and look for metal shavings in skips/through open shutters. Then you know they have lathes and can do what you want.0 -
This was a common procedure years ago on what would now be 'classic' cars, when discs were thicker, harder, and pads were softer. Discs could get scored and you had them skimmed. Perhaps unwise on a modern car but perhaps the OP has a 'classic'.0

that was my thinking too datostar
of course its quite popular in the states to have your rotors skimmed but as you rightly pointy out old classics had thicker discs just like yank tin does/did0 -
Subaru resurfaced the almost new discs on my previous Legacy.
But that was to remove excess pad material that had built up on the disc due to a pad compound issue.
Also happened on our new Merc Sprinters at the same time, back in 2004, the resurfacing took off the clag, but it still took them anorher complete set of discs and pads and a caliper to.sort the issue.
As mentioned already any industrial area will have somebody that can do it.
Wether it is advisable is another thing.
Brand new Pagid discs and pads for my Mondeo cost £78 last week.
At least he lives up north. Don't fancy having somebody behind me that thinks it is a good idea to skim.one disc. Even.if it is a classic car the OP should skim.both so they are the same width then fit new pads.
Some people have different ideas on what is monesaving and what is false economy i suppose.0
