You can't blame the PO counter assistant if s/he looked at the phone screen and saw T-Mobile. I have a spare Virgin sim in an old phone and it shows up as T-Mobile on the screen.

Just as a followup, I took the voucher back again today and by chance spoke to the assistant who had served my mum. She spoke to her supervisor and although it took a while, the supervisor managed to do a refund on the system, and then sold me a virgin top up! I expressed great gratitude to her!!

Everyones happy! I did thank the original assistant too for trying to help my mum, as I can see why she assumed it was T mobile, Ive yet to have a chat to my mum about trying to be too independent!!:o

Or give her the e-top up card that comes with the SIM and she can just hand it over and ask to put £10 on?

I would if she knew where she has put it, shes moved house since the last time it was topped up, so it could be anywhere!

However the mobile is very rarely used, and its likely to be years till we have to top it up again anyway. Its more of a confidence thing that in an emergency we can contact each other.

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions!:T
