Made it - debt free at last!!!!

Hello All

Well today was the day, hit the enter button on PC this morning to send Payplan my last ever monthly payment on my DMP.:j I'm still in shock really - I can't believe the last 3 and half years have gone by so fast. LBM was May 2007 - owing about 23K to 10 creditors, total repaid around 26K - not all of them stopped the interest. What a journey, as I got towards the last few months, things just seemed to get harder, OH was laid off, then made redundant on New Years Day! (not a huge payout as he'd only been there 2 years but it helped). It seemed for a while that the end would never come. More job losses with my employer (local authority) and I began to doubt we would ever get to the end of this DMP. But we have, and I must say that Payplan have been great throughout. When I think back to the night I first told OH about the debts, how guilty and ashamed I felt for letting us get into this mess. And now - it's like life has started again. Had a bad health scare recently so have also stopped smoking 10 days ago - using patches at the moment and it's hard but determined to keep going, so extra funds available from quitting the cigs! So plans for the future - build up an emergency fund to cover 3 months running costs for the home, nice second hand car for OH, driving lessons for me and that's it so far, any suggestions? So keep going guys, this forum is the absolute best, I love it, it has been such an inspiration and I hope I'll have the confidence now to stick around and maybe help other folk starting out on their debt free journeys.
Finally debt free - August 2010
Thankyou Payplan and DFW forum. Total debt repaid: £24,453. Still debt free and planning to stay that way!:j
