Co-op leaving applications sitting for over a month

Our group decided we would open an account with the Co-Op, it being ethically friendly and all. We had to wait for over a month before hearing anything, even though, after three weeks had passed, the admin team deemed our application as 'urgent'. Still having not heard from them, we called again after ten days and found that they still hadn't even begun processing the application form. We are not the only ones. They have a huge backlog, apparently. And, it takes forever to get through to anyone on their (08) phone line, so each time we chase, it costs.

Eventually, we withdrew the application form, took it to HSBC and they opened our account in less than a week, with no fuss, and great service!

So, if anyone is thinking of opening a new business or charity account with the Co-Op, don't expect to do so any time soon!!!

I opened my business account at the Co-op last year via the FSB without any problems, I think it took about 3 weeks from start to finish because I do know they had to do a credit check before they would send information and cheque books etc out to you.
