The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had their wedding on Friday... And if it saves you money, do it!

I'm getting married on a Monday (Bank Holiday), who says you have to get married on a Saturday? It's your wedding and whatever day you do it on will be special for you, and if you save some money is the process to put towards something else then so be it :)

We saved £1000 on the venue by having it on a Monday, which I'm hoping to put towards something else :)
Planned our wedding, still planning lessons

I am getting married on a Friday, the cost of most things is not as expensive. Because we have booked things so early we have also got discounts.

I am a teaching assistant so I need to have the wedding during the holidays, we are having our wedding on April 5th 2013

We have gone for a wednesday wedding! Not popular with everyone but everyone who matters is coming as long as you are prepared to deal with guests not being able to come you are fine and it saves a ridiculous amount of money.
Getting married Wednesday 24th August 2011!
    :D

We got married Friday gone and it was perfect, our friends all commented that a Friday wedding was great because they get a long weekend to recover! I would say go for it. We sent save the dates out in Jan so people had plenty of notice, a couple had problems booking the day off at first but because they had plenty of notice they were Fine in the end. I say go for it! Especially if it's cheaper, there was a big difference in reg office prices for us which was mainly the reason we went for a Friday wedding. We had a fab time and being able to spend a full weekend together after the wedding was awesome :-)

Every wedding I have been to in last 5 years has been on a Friday. We are the kind of family who get engaged and get married within 6 months. As a result Saturdays have not really been an option. Friday is much cheaper and quieter plus as a daily we usual stay saturday and have some quality time wIth extended family.

No problems with anyone getting time off etc.

thank you all, the hotel we want to use has a weekday package of £28 per guest which includes arrival drink, 3 courses, tea/coffee afterwards and the evening buffett. then it's £8 per head for the additional guest invited to the evening. it only works out about £200 cheaper but that didn't include the arrival drink and tea/coffee.

I wonder if anyone's ever done any statistics about the percentage of RSVPs coming back "yes" for different days of the week. Personally, I went for Saturday, because I knew a few people who wouldn't be able to make a weekday, or who might not bother to have a day off. But it would only have been a few, maybe 10%, of our guests - and it costs a lot more than 10% more! :)

I would try and negotiate. Much more opportunity midweek.

I book conferences. Whilst hotels are generally less willing to reduce prices they are usually always willing to throw in extras- wine etc. I would try for wine and some free bedrooms as a starting point. Tne bedrooms cost them virtually nothing and the wine only a few pounds a bottle.

Plus they generally match deals. So if in say but xxx hotel will give us yyy for the same price they always match it. These are both national chains and one off country house type hotels I deal with.

A few years ago they would have had corporate events and meetings midweek. This business has been decimated as companies have cut back.

If they can't be bothered to get a day off I would hope that you wouldn't want them at your wedding anyway!

I don't really think that's the case...there are several extended family members and old family friends that we'd love to have at our wedding, because we haven't seen them for much too long. It would also mean a lot to our parents to have them there. Sadly, however, because we haven't seen them for such a long time, they aren't what you'd call "close", so I could understand if they chose not use a day's holiday to attend.
