Friday wedding?

Hi all, we have provisionally booked everything for our wedding for 11/08/2012 but i'm starting to think a Friday wedding would be better, we can still have everything we want but save around £700 my budget for a saturday is currently at £6500, my parents are paying for my dress and in laws haven't offered to help, so a saving of £700 would be great for us, but my OH needs convincing.

    We're going for a Friday wedding (4/5/12)
The ceremony will be 2.30ish so people can just book afternoon off if they need to and then still have Sat & Sun to recover.
It's cheaper too and the people who you really want to be there will make the effort.

I think the only thing to consider is whether or not your family & friends can make it. Is there any issue with them taking a Friday off? If the wedding is taking place quite a distance from where Family & Friends live will they also need to take Thursday off to travel as this may make a difference as to who can come.

Otherwise I think a Friday is fine - give plenty of notice by sending out save the dates early so guests can arrange holiday from work :)

We've gone for a Friday wedding too: it's several thousand pounds cheaper and it means everyone gets the full weekend to recover. Our ceremony is at 3pm so those travelling can still make it in a day and our evening guests can just join us after work. We did make sure that the date falls within the summer holidays as lots of our friends and family are teachers, but so far no one has complained :)

Ours is Friday as well... it worked out at half the price of a Sat AND we get exclusivity of the hotel chucked in (otherwise they could have run 2 side by side which we did not want)

we have also been able to lower the price of some other things as well but I think some of it is down to it been in Feb as weekday weddings are becomming more ande more popular. I would not be suprised if venues start to cash in on it!

In peak wedding season a weekday wedding will present a substantial discount. It is, however, likely to be less convenient for many guests, as a Monday to Friday working week still seems to be the norm for many people.

We chose a Saturday because, as a guest, I would find a Friday wedding pretty inconvenient. Taking time off work is a bit of a pain - especially this year when we are saving our annual leave up for our own honeymoon.

Having said that, if we had lots of friends who did not work, or worked unusual hours, or were teachers and had long holidays, that mightn't be such an issue.

Only you and your fiance will be able to balance up the inconvenience to your guests compared to the financial saving and possible other benefits to you all. If you're having a small wedding you will have a good idea of who might find it preferable vs inconvenient.

I would never miss someone's wedding if I could avoid it. The only times I have done has been when it clashed with someone else's wedding or, once, a funeral. But I might seethe a little if I had to take too much time off work.

Hope that helps :) Either way I'm sure you will get lots of good tips here to save cash on other aspects of the wedding - there are some very imaginative people here!

our wedding will be on a MONDAY!! smack in the middle of our holiday - a week before to tweak last few details when we get there and a week (nearly) after to relax before coming home and telling everybody else what we've done! Also weekday weddings were way cheaper
  • Hi

We had our wedding on a Friday. We had a discount on the venue, but we also found that things were available readily, because most people still tend to go for a Saturday wedding. We also found that our guests were happy to take a Friday off work, making a long weekend of it. We also had some teachers amongst our guests (I believe they took unpaid leave).

I guess if people really want to be there, they will find a way round any minor problems.

I hope that you have a perfect day.
