Train tickets not received. Conundrum

I book quite a lot of train journeys so fairly familiar with the procedure. After reading this thread I realised I could have tickets posted out for less than my usual online choice (East Coast). On Sunday I bought tickets for today through London Midland as there was less than a week the options for post were £2 recorded or £5 SD, being a money saver I went for recorded.

The tickets haven't arrived, after numerous phone calls this morning they appear to have been misplaced somewhere between Ipswich and Leiston. (This is the 3rd time in the last year that recoded items have not arrived).

This is rubbish service, but refundable yadda yadda yadda.

The problem is trying to make a train journey now is almost impossible.

The journey is for my children who are traveling form a small unmanned station with no ticket machine. Meaning there is no way to purchase a ticket before they travel this afternoon.

They can pay for their ticket on the train, but the family railcard discount they are 17 and 15) will not be applied !!!!!!...

If anyone knows of any alternative that I am missing out on I would be pleased to hear it.

Get them to pay for a permit to travel out of the Permit to travel machine at the unmanned station. Pay the fare when approached explaining the situation and then claim back

As far as I was aware, if there is no ticket machine at the station then they could request discounted tickets when on board.

I know I used to after our ticket booth shut at night- used to shut about 8pm.

I may be wrong, but I don't think a family railcard can be used if no adult is travelling, so chances are if the tickets you'd booked had arrived and they'd used them on the train they'd have ended up with a penalty fare for not having the right tickets anyway.

Adult fare is from age 16+, so the 17 year old would be classed as an adult, surely?
