I drive a Ford Focus diesel. Anyone know (roughly) how much diesel costs per mile?

You need to work out your MPG and your price per litre of diesel to work that out. How long is a piece of string!!!

Work out your mpg and divide accordingly. eg 50mpg @ £6.17 per gallon (1.36 per litre). 6.17/50 = 12.3p per mile.

Just to add, you need to work out your fuel consumption accurately the brim to brim method is the best. Don't add a tenner of deisel then see how many miles you get as that can vary wildly.

Fill the car to the brim, 2 clicks on the pump should suffice, reset the odometer to zero. Run the car for 100/200 miles then fill up again to 2 clicks on the pump. Make a not of how many litres used and see how many miles you did on x amount of litres. You can work your MPG out from there, then use worried jim's calculation above to work out cost per mile.

Personally I would drive for a week (which may require mid week top up) so that your overall driving pattern is included. I say this because weekday journeys may be long journeys whereas weekend ones may be short journeys around town or it could be the reverse.

stick how miles you've covered, cost per litre and how many litres, hit calculate and it'll work it out for you.

Yeah good point, which ever works best for the OP. When I want to know I tend to do it before a long motorway run to work MPG on a good run then another for around town. Gives you a good range then of whats expected from town/motorway driving.

The fuel computer in my Mondeo is 5% optimistic as observed over 60,000 miles.
