E.on Majorly High Bill

Hi Guys,

I had a quartley bill through the other week for £651.39 from E.on for my electricity bill.

Now, I live in a 2 bedroom maisonette flat where everything is electric, we have storage heaters (only 2, downstairs) and when I work 1pm - 8pm Mon-Fri everything is switched off.

So long story short is during winter quarter.... 9th Nov - 18th Feb my bill was £340.29 (roughly from memory) and my bill now from 18th Feb through to 18th May is £651.39.

Since January/Feb time all of my heating has been switched off and we hardly use things apart from around 9pm onwards when we are both back from work.

Online my usage tracker from e.on says I am using less electricity through this period but yet my bill is almost double my winter bill. How can this be? I know for a fact that I havent used that much electricity. I am trying to dispute this bill and so far I am providing readings to the consumptions team, but I don't really know the protocol or best method to dispute this bill because its stupidly high for 3 months in a flat.

Any suggestions?

You really need to post some meter readings and/or useage figures.

This "Online my usage tracker from e.on says I am using less electricity" probably refers to the same period last year. Was the Feb'11 bill based on A(ctual) reading or an E(stimated) reading, if it is the latter then the current bill could be a 'catch up' bill (based on actual reading.

To make is easier for people to help amend your post to include Kwh as well as £s because the cost depends on tariff, ensure you include both day and night consumption figures. Full details of Feb bill may also help us help you.

    Hi Jaymo

As spiro says, was the previous bill based on estimated meter readings? If it was, the latest bill could well be a catch up if we've under estimated past usage.

What type of meter do you have? All electric properties with storage heaters sometimes have specialised meters like Heatwise or Economy 10.

These types of meter provide set periods of time during the day where the central and water heating can be used at lower off peak rates. If you have this type of meter, are you using it to the best effect?

You're doing exactly the right thing in talking to our Consumption Team. They're the best placed team to advise on these matters.

If the increased bill is a result of a catch up, ask for a payment arrangement to spread the balance over a more manageable period. We'll be happy to set this up.

Hope this gives you a couple of pointers Jaymo. Give me a shout if you need any more info as happy to help.

I've currently got a formal complaint going on with the Director's Office at the moment as I still believe that I was overcharged last year in my flat.

I'm moved to a 3 bedroom semi detached house now and had my winter bill through (and i've been using a lot more electricity etc to keep the house warm) and my bill was £97 with SSE but last year in a much smaller property with less people E.on are trying to charge me £500+ more which to me shows that something doesn't add up.

I've been on a payment plan for months paying £48 a month back to E.on for this bill and I think there is only abot £400 left from around £700+ but I just want E.on to write the remainder off as I'm no longer with them, its causing a little bit of financial strain on me and my family and each response i've had has no inclination that e.on are actually willing to investigate the matter and at the time I even asked for an engineer to come out, provided all the meter readings and things didn't add up although a manager fobbed me off with £80 good will gesture which felt more like hush money for the bad customer service I had.

Why can't E.on stop being a pain, use some common sense and realise that 2 people living in a 2 bedroom flat with the heating off constantly throughout winter shouldn't have an electricity bill of £500-£700......my dads company which works 24/7 had a cheaper electricity bill than what I had and they were with E.on as well.
