Condensing Boiler help

I have a Nibe boiler in my flat - I think it's what's called a condensibg or compressor boiler. Ever since I moved in in December it seems to boot up at random times in the day and night even when the heating is not on and I'm not using hot water. It makes a thrumming noise as if it's doing something rather than idiling. I'm a bit worried that it's eating up my electricity especially as today we had a residents meeting and some other flat owners found their boiler cost them about £20 a month to run and others £60. Before this I lived in ignorant bliss of thinking that it was being normal but now I'm not so sure. Seeing as my one and only electricity bill in April was based on an estimate I'm even more concerned that when my proper bill based on proper readings comes through it will be sky high.
The settings are normal as far as I can tell. it's on a 'summer' setting. The heating is set to come on in the morning and evening for a few hours (it's set for 20 degress for theses times and the rest at 16 degrees) but as it's warm enough at the moment it doesn't.
Do any of you lovely people know what it's playing at? Is it doing it's usual boiler thing? I've asked my housing association (I'm in shared ownership) and all they say is 'don't turn it off.'
Many thanks

Depending on the make/model it might simply be a water pre heat function. This keeps a small amount of hot water in the boiler to reduce the time taken to get to the taps.
You'll probably need the instructions to be able to turn this function off unless there's an 'obvious' looking button/switch on the front.
If this doesn't cure it then I'm afraid its Engineer time. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
Is the boiler actually lighting up or is it just the circulation pump starting ?
My condensing boiler has a function that runs the pump for about 30secs every now and again, could be day or night.
It is supposed to stop the pump from seizing up if it is stopped for long periods of time.
If it is just the pump then electricity usage is minimal.0 -
gas boilers use very little electric. even the pump.
they do use a lot of gas though!Get some gorm.0 -
I don't think Nibe make gas boilers. They make electric boilers and Air Source Heat Pumps (which do have compressors). OP What is the model you have?0

Hi,
If you don't have the user/installation instructions for your 'boiler'
Have a look at the website and find it.
You might answer your own question.

Hi everyone, thanks for your posts in this topic and sorry I didn't reply sooner. It's a Nibe Figher 200P boiler and it electric. Sparky47 - most of the time i think it must be the pump working as no indicator lights are on so that's good news if it uses little electricity. Sometime though the light that indicates that the compressor is running comes on. This afternoon I came home and the boiler was humming away with this light lit even though no heating or hot water was being used.
I guess I better take a meter reading and send it off to my electricity supplier and sit tight with the hope that my bill will be AOK.0 -
Hi,
Do you have the manual for this unit?
Have you, or anyone else, performed any maintenance on it?
