bank charges

I have a small savings account 10,000£ and a current account where my pension is deposited. I have no other income. I am being charged £5/month as I have a cheque book and a debit card.
Any suggestions please.

It is a Barclays Wealth account(I do not live in the UK) and it says charges and commission

Bank accounts for expats are a bit of a specialist subject, and I suspect most regular poster won't have detailed knowledge to help. I certainly don't! That said, there's a list of possible account providers here. It is a bit out of date though -- e.g. it lists Abbey International, which is now Santander Private Banking. Some of the accounts may not have a monthly fee (e.g. the Co-operative Bank one doesn't seem to, and Lloyds waives the fee if your balance is over £2,500), but I'm sure they will all have some fees attached to them e.g. for cash withdrawals overseas etc. You need to think carefully about how you use the account to see what the best option is.
