I put this post on the end of another Freeview thread but no ones replied so I have started my own thread (just incase board guides have a go at me for starting a new one):
I've bought a freeview box today which will not work. I've plugged it into the aerial (which works fine) and into the TV with a scart lead (which also works fine) but it can't find any channels. I've checked the freeview site and it says that there is full freeview coverage here. So what could be going wrong?
All useful replies will be thanked :T

it could be a dodgy box bs. When I first got freeview about a year ago I had to take the first box I bought back because it couldn't find any channels. The second box worked fine.0

Press menu on the freeview remote, go to "set up" and then search for new channels.
This should get you system up and running.(".)0 -
It may just be that you have insufficient signal from your aerial. In some areas, the digital signals are out of band from the analogue signals, meaning that a different aerial is required. To see if this is the case, enter your post code into this site and make a note of the analogue channel numbers used followed by this site for the digital channels. Digital signals are often not as strong as the analogue signals from the same transmitter, so a better aerial may be needed. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Do you mean that the aerial works fine with the tv?
If that is the case, then there is the high probability that your aerial is simply not compatible with Freeview.
We found this to be true with our main aerial....the box kept saying that there was no aerial connected.....but with another, second aerial that we found up in the loft it worked (although I had to replace the cable to get a decent signal through it).
edit: espresso beat me to it

If you get it working, the Real Hustle is on again tonight 9pm, and the bit you wanted to watch is in the first 12 mins.

Thanks, I've been upstairs fiddling with it (the Freeview box, not anything else) all afternoon but to no avail. There isnt anything wrong with the actual box as far as I can see. All I can think of like a previous poster said is that the aerial wire is not compatible. It's about 20 years old I think. Theres only one aerial for the whole house so I don't think I'll be able to upgrade it. If I can't get it up and running I'm afraid it will be an ebay job.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Do you know anyone else with a Freeview box which works? Plug your box into their aerial to check if it works, or plug their box into your aerial.Charlie0
