do this.

My old VHS recorder has a scart at the back so there are no plugs to input the yellow and red jacks.

I need some hardware thats not too expensive to connect to my recorder and to my pc, then software to use to dl the movies onto my pc. I can convert the movies using kit I already have.

So any help techie guys??

Last year I bought a usb capture device so that I could convert my vhs tapes and put them onto dvd's.

The first one i bought was a little cheap and it didn't last very long although the software that came with it was quite good.

I now have one sold by Roxio, this is far better quality and a little dearer and I wish I had gone for this one in the first place.

The package includes all the cables, can't remember if there was the scart socket in it, but they are cheap to buy. You can also connect to any digital camera

Can I ask how long the cable is? - it doesn't look that long in the photo's

The small cable is about 6 inches long, but that is mainly the connection to the usb device, what I did was purchase a 3 metre long cable which has 1 yellow, one white and one red cable with phono ends to sit between the usb device and the scart socket, they are not expensive.

I get just over 1 hour vhs onto each dvd, you can compress it more if you wish, of course the quality then drops, also the quality is not as good if the video was recorded in long play mode.

Most of my tapes are of family and holidays, some of them I put onto dual layer dvd's rather than have them split up a lot.

You could just convert the tapes into mpeg files rather than create a dvd if you want.

I have no problems using the usb capture on Windows 7 either.

Do you want to leave the movies on the PC, or do you want to burn DVDs of them?

If the latter, wouldn't a standalone DVD recorder be a better option?
