charging banks

Hi everyone,

I'm currently pursuing a complaint with RBS. They said they'd be willing to reimburse me for a telephone call but I want to charge them for my time.
Does anyone know if there is a recognised way of going about this? I sometimes work self employed and charge £14/15 per hour. I've also added up the time spent on telephone calls. This adds up to around an hour but I've spent much longer than this on the problem overall so how do I quantify that time?

Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Id say £10.00 per hour, the FOS recognises that as acceptable recompense.
Plus your very unlikely to get more as it was your choice to spend your working time resolving the issue,
  • Thanks.
do you know if time spent on telephone calls the only time they'll acknowledge?

Id be honest with them, it gets you better heard, some people will say its cost 200.00 etc, and try and rinse them
Id be honest outline your costs split it out and time spent, phone wise, letter writing or visiting branches, petrol costs, telephone costs
and then say inconvenience on top and im sure they'll give recompense if they are at fault, and its proven as they wont want to lose you

    Totally agree with Giraffe.

What's it cost you actually (calls, petrol, parking - no need to exaggerate, just the truth)?
What's it cost you in time? £10 an hour is a guide figure (tax free, remember).

    That's the compensation claim.

Then, in addition, there's the goodwill claim. How much do they value your goodwill at?

So I'd say something like (figures made up) "thank you for admitting the problem and making an offer. Could I suggest a figure of £75 would be appropriate. £15 for calls, £30 for time and £30 as a gesture of goodwill".

    Totally agree
  • great. Thanks :-)
  • Just to let you know that I took your advice and charged them £96. This was made up of the cost of telephone calls, my time and a goodwill gesture and they agreed to pay....result!

    Many thanks :-)
