    Hi
You can try Punjab National Bank(PNB) international Uk to send money to india. If the account is in pnb india then it takes about 4 hours and for other banks i don't trust them. In london ,the most of indian banks have got branches.Try the one in which you have got account in India.

I've thought about Western Union and a few other money transfer ways, but the costing is ridiculous. Would work out cheaper getting a flight out there!

Dude, it only costs £25.90 to send £7k from UK to India through Western Union and the money is there in 10 mins. That's hardly the cost of an air ticket to India! Most UK banks will charge you at least £20 for an overseas transfer, but then the recipient may also be hit with charges for receiving money and the transfer could take weeks so it could potentially work out more expensive.

I know this is a moneysaving site but paying £25 to send £7k overseas is hardly a rip-off....if you want to pay peanuts, then good luck!

Not sure where you get your numbers, but the online calculator shows £25.90 charge for sending £2500 using "Money in minutes" service. So for £7K it is definitely going to be much higher. However, the big catch is that the exchange rate is set by WU and is way worse than what you will get from a good bank! WU is only recommended if you are in a super hurry (which I guess the OP was) to get the money to the recipient or....other reasonsicon12.gif
