Does anyone know the likely cause of the damage shown in this picture? I can't see any unusual marks on the surface where the dark circles are but I suspect it must have been whacked for this to happen?
Thanks

Both corners, quite odd - has the unit been transported flat, with some weight on it maybe?0

I tried google as I was intrigued and this thread suggests it could be water damage....

Hmmm, I think we could be on to something - the underside of the stand was slightly wet....
Since it's knackered anyway I suppose I could try to reproduce the effect myself.
I wonder if it's been caused by some sort of oil? I'm guessing that would penetrate the surface more than water.
When I said I couldn't see any marks on the surface I was talking about impact marks but the area where the circles are were reflecting the light slightly differently...0 -
Some one spilled a drink on it, panicked, grabbed the laptop (by the base of the screen, thumbs either side where the marks are) and turned it over to drain of the liquid. Causing lcd bleed in the two thumb areas, and damaging the lcd connections on the side causing the lines across.
Thats my guess.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
My old laptop did that, shortly after I threw my dinner over it.
Pasta with tomato sauce, for anyone who's interested.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Did the tomato sauce have chunks in it?
I feel this could have been the deciding factor that caused the damage.:cool:0 -

The bits I could recover, yes. It was lovely.
Anyway, I took it apart and rebuilt it in Lego to make a HTPC (which I need to get working!). And I have a lovely shiny new laptop now.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products.
