I've just moved flats and it was a nightmare due to lazy incompetent letting agents but that's another story.
My query is I would like to change energy suppliers to save some money but my current gas supplier tells me that my supply is in the process of being changed to another supplier that the previous tenant initiated. I can't change to the supplier I want until this process is complete in 2 weeks time.
Can the previous tenant commit me to a new 12 month contract with a new supplier? And what are my options to stop this process?
Thanks.

You are not committed to 12 months with the new supplier. Okay might not be able to do anything while the change is happening but as soon as it is complete, you just change to your preferred supplier. If there was a contract, you are not bound by it.
ETA - The bods on the Gas & Electric board might be able to help re stopping the change of supplier. If I remember correctly you might be able to get it reversed as an erroneous transfer (although that might take longer than the actual change of supplier would)0
