Software to Convert Mpegs etc. to Flash Video

Hi there

Just looking for a reasonably cheap, but reliable, software to convert Mpegs and other video formats to Flash Video. Obviously you can by the official flash version, but surely there are more cost-effective alternatives??

Rather like PDF generation, you can buy Adobe (and pay £600) or buy DeskPDF or similar...

is it possible to keep youtube downloads?
if they're downloaded and played, there must be a copy downloaded onto the hard disk somewhere..

if there is, this would be the simpest way to convert (if it's just clips you're converting)

Thanks, guys. So we have the freebie sorted out, but it seems like a bit of a roundabout route and therefore could anyone help on a piece of software (which I am willing to pay for - but not a huge amount) that might do it all in one go and any length of video?
