Can I return shoes?

Hi, my daughters have recently been bridesmaids and I bought them both some satin shoes from Marks and Spencer's which were £18 each. They wore them for the wedding and for the disco. The problem is that they are dropping to bits. My eldest daughter had to take hers off in the end and walk around bare foot as the sole was hanging off and she kept tripping over. I normally wouldn't hesitate in taking them back but they are absolutely filthy (inside and out!) and I'm not sure how they'll react to that. The soles, however, don't show any sign of wear. I know these type of shoes are only for occasion wear - but I didn't expect them to fall apart the way they have. Do you think I could take them back??

I'd maybe give them a bit of a wipe if they're that bad but yes, you should be able take the back, explain the situation and get a replacement/refund, whatever they offer
