TGI Fridays offer

I've got a question regarding an offer TGI Fridays are currently advertising. I saw a poster up in the restaurant offering a free meal to anyone who is 25 this weekend as they have just currently turned 25.

Upon enquiring about this they've told me it only applies to people who were born in 1986. I am 25 but was born in 1985 and they told me the offer doesn't apply. Having checked the poster it does mention it in the small print.

Can they do this though? Surely putting something as the main poster header which isn't true breaks some sort of advertising law?

nope - they're fine - think SALE posters with small text at the bottom 'exclusions apply'

    Happens all the time...

Googling the offer it says you have to be born in 1986. Shame I'm 10 years too old....I wonder if I forged my ID and ironed a couple of wrinkles out of my face if I'd get away with it. Probably not. Shame that is Gavin83! Please tell me this is the number of times you've cursed TGI Fridays and not your actual birth year. You have to take ID with you to prove it anyway.... ;)

Maybe i'm missing something here but do they not mean that if it's your 25th birthday this weekend then you get a free meal and not every 25 year old in the country eats free.

...the clue is in the words 'just currently turned 25'....as in not a while/3...6...9 weeks/months ago....your 25th birthday being this week/weekend is what they are running the promotion on. Got that?

Your wrong. It's a free meal for anyone born in 1986. ANYONE. Not just turning 25 this weekend.

I've also just received an email regarding this. All it says it 'Eat free this weekend if your 25'. I don't really see how this isn't misleading.

I posted this as I wasn't sure if a company could put a large title on a poster and then put a bit of text in the small print that basically changes what the main title states. It seems they can do this though so I'll let the matter drop.

Just had a look on the website and it say's "We're 25 this year if you are to we'll treat you to a free meal" "To qualify for this offer you must have been born in 1986, proof of DOB ID is required"

That seems fair enough, they've been open 25 years this year so anyone who turns 25 from 1st January - 31st December get's a free meal. They weren't 25 last year so why should anyone born in '85 get a free meal?

I've just had a look at the website advert which does actually make it a lot more clear. The email I received literally just said 'eat free this weekend if your 25' which isn't quite so well written in my opinion.

It's fair enough though, just means I won't be eating there this weekend now.

There may be no such thing as a stupid question, but you've nicely outed yourself as a stupid user here.

If you'd bothered to actually read Gavin83s post instead of jumping in, trying to make yourself look smart, you'd have seen 'just currently turned 25' refers to TGI Fridays, not Gavin83. There is absolutely no requirement for anyone to have a 25th birthday this weekend to take advantage of the offer.

    Got that?
