Hi
quick question ( and a little proud Mum moment)
DD has won a shield at school today, it is choc a block with names, no room on the front for any more names.
Does anyone know what the etiquette is on this - do we
1/ buy a new one and hand it in with the old one,
2/ buy a new one and hand it in without the full up one
3/ hand it back full up and let the school work it out.
I know it's a while till we would need to know, but it's not something I've ever needed to know before.

Doesn't the school do it? Our schools always provided a new cup (or if it was a shield, I know they have had the shield sent away for the engraved discs to be moved closer together to allow more names to be put on).0

Ask the school: they can sometimes arrange for a new "backing" to be put on the back of the shield, to let a full new set of names around the old ones."Every single person has at least one secret that would break your heart. If we could just remember this, I think there would be a lot more compassion and tolerance in the world."— Frank Warren0

Firstly congratulations to your daughter OP, you must be very proud. I would think the school will arrange for a new shield, if the original cant be adjusted to fit your dds name.
Would be cool to be the first one listed on it. If this is an annual event then a knew shield would make sense, as this is the start of a new decade.0 -
Hand it back full up - we had this issue before and the school then removed the oldest plaque from the trophy and replaced it with a new one.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0

Take the oldest one off and put it on the back, use the space for the new one - that's what they do for the trophies for my son's foootball leagueNot even wrong0

Come on then proud Mum - tell us what she won the shield for

I've seen shields that have a plate screwed onto the back 'leg' (assuming it's a free-standing one) then the names were engraved onto it. If I was you I'd ask the school as you don't want to offend/upset anyone, or fork out for a new trophy

oh alright then - for writing an essay, surprisingly enough the only English based "major" prize they had - the rest of them were for sports or good citizenship. She got certificates for being best at Maths and lots of other things too - I was almost embarassed when her name kept cropping up. Some of the others were the same with sporting achievements. Very proud of her though, sporting achiements don't pay the bills unless you're the next Wayne Rooney!
Her name has already been added to the trophy - I hadn't thought about the old plates being taken off before, that's a grand idea! I'll suggest that to them when it comes time to hand it back.
Thanks, I knew MSE would be better than google for this kind of question

our school never had trophies - guess none of us were good enough! but my OH played rugby and won Player of the Year a couple of times. His name wasnt added to the trophy during the year he kept it - It was added later by the Rugby club. I dont think its up to you to have the name engraved - but if in doubt - ask the school!0

my school never had trophies either, the head msitress didn't believe in it - DD's school only give out prizes in p7 and the majority of them are sporting achievement or good citizenship. One prize for English and one prize for maths but about 43 for sports

DD's name is already on the trophy, so I'll just hand it back and let them arrange it - I just wondered if there was an "etiquette" to it, that's all?Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
