Joint accounts, credit ratings and applying for credit????

Options
Currently I am out of work with a credit card debt of under £2k, also with my bank I have my current account, empty savings account and our joint account. No other debts, cards etc.

My spouse is in work and doesn't have any debts or any credit cards, does have 1 account with a different bank but hasn't used it in years.

If we decided to apply for a 0% credit card (either to do a balance transfer for me, or my partner would use for purchases while I pay off the existing card) which one of us would be best to apply based on the following...

I have seen my credit record and it was all great, I have also spoken to my bank just last week who said I have an A rating and that they would lend me money at any time if I wanted (I don't!) as I have a very good financial history (the amounts that told me they would be willing to lend me are actually more than I could afford to repay - it's madness) at a rate of less than 10% which is about the same rate as my credit card anyway.

In the past my spouses financial history may not have been so good, but over the last 5-10 years has been much improved.

We have had a joint account for a number of years now, as my bank wouldn't let my spouse open a new/separate current account with debit card back then.

Should my spouse check his credit record before we make any decisions?

Id say your spouse, as you have no income to service any potential debt
