Hi all
Starting my new job and will get a company car (Band C) Ford focus or somthing like this. Car will come with fuel card with Business and Private use. But I know for fact I will use this car for Business use only!! I know how to calculate how much tax I will pay for the car but how is this calculated in case of fuel card? Do i still pay tax for the fuel card? and if yes why?
Regards
Peter
My husband is in the exact same situation as you and he works from home a lot too, however he has to pay the full tax and has done for years as he has the car at his disposal REGARDLESS of whether he cares to use it or not.
The taxman does not care if he uses it,he still wants his tax.
Perhaps you would be better off negotiating to join a mileage scheme instead of using a fuel card.0 -

my husband has his tax code adjusted by £4062 for the car (same band) and £3780 for the fuel card for this year 2011/12.
Hope that helps.
He's never had to keep a mileage record,he can take the car abroad if he wants to at no extra cost to him.0 -

No, if you are just paying tax on fuel you don't need to complete mileage (unless your employer wants you to, but HMRC don't care).
My drivers complete mileage sheets and I deduct cost of private mileage from their wages, that way they do not have to pay tax on fuel.
If you have fuel available for private use for free, you pay tax on the benefit.
However as I deduct the cost of private miles from wages, it is not benefit and therefore no tax.0 -
Thank you all for the informations
I better star my new job and will see how this will work
Anyway do you know if I can claim for anything while working from home? Anything I can save money on will help0 -
Sorry to butt in on your thread OP, but can someone tell me if my OH will be taxed on his fuel card?
He puts all his fuel on it, at the end of the month they send him a letter detailing how much fuel he has paid for, less the amount he's claimed for his business miles, the balance is deducted from his salary.
EG £100 of fuel paid for
£ 20 in business miles
£ 80 deducted from his salary
How/what would be be taxed on?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

He won't be taxed since he pays for his own fuel direct at the end of each month, its not a benefit.0 -

Have a look at forms 480 and 490 from the HMRC. Downloads available from the websiteLiving for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.
