This is the vendor's decision. Would you withdraw a property from the market if you weren't certain that a prospective buyer was serious?0

Yes, but there's nothing stopping you withdrawing your offer until they do...
It's perfectly reasonable to question spending money on a survey when the house is not secured for you. Have you given them the solicitor information yet? Do you have a Mortgage In Principle? Both of these are good indicators that you intend to proceed and should re-assure the vendor. Tell the vendor that if he doesnt trust you, how are you to trust him that he wont accept another offer while you are getting your survey done? Someone has to blink first and in this market, it needn't be the buyer.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

See if they'll take it off RM if you get a survey booked rather than done. Maybe that's the compromise. Mind you, they're usually done pretty quickly after booking in my experience.
Don't see what you'll have lost really until that point - won't have been much in the way of solicitor's fees, etc. The quicker it's booked, the quicker you can all get on with things.

I have always insisted the property is taken off the market once an offer is accepted. You don't want to pay out for a survey and then they accept someone else's offer. Times are difficult though. How about saying you want it removed from rightmove, their window etc on condition you get survey booked tomorrow or something like that?0

Most Surveys once booked will be done within a couple of days anyway.
Have a word with the EA, im sure they will take it off once they get a call for survey.
I wouldn't worry to much about it if I were you, not trying to be negative, but the deal is never secure until exchanged.
Just get everything done as quickly as possible, thats the best way.0 -
they have a copy of my MIP, solicitors information I asked about right move theve said they wont remove it0

This happened to me - just get it booked asap and they'll then remove it I suspect.0

We made an offer on the proviso that they stop marketing. The EA refused to do so until they had recieved copies of our AIP, other funds & ID. Fair enough I suppose though it did take about a week for us to do this because we weren't in the area.

We made it a condition of our offer that the property would immediately be marked SSTC on everything including Rightmove and all further viewings cancelled. Had the vendor refused (and they were within their rights to do so), our offer would not have stood. Their call.
It's not unreasonable to ask you to BOOK your survey before marking the property SSTC. But a survey can take time to actually happen and it's not fair to be soliciting offers when someone has committed to several hundred pounds on a survey.0 -
When selling OH's flat he refused to allow the estate agents to show the property SSTC until the buyers survey was done and the mortgage application approved. This is mainly because there were offers made by people who were unable to get a mortgage. He didn't agree to any more viewings from the acceptance of the offer but the EA took the details of anyone else interested in case everything fell through.0
