As a Scottish Power customer for the last 8 months, I wish to point out that their price increase on our tariff from 1August 2011 (Online Energy Saver 10, Midlands region 14) is far higher than advertised.
The figures are as follows (inclusive of VAT)
ELECTRICITY
For the first 225kWh used each quarter 17.532p from 25/11/2010
22.636p from 01/08/2011
Increase =29%
For the remaining kWh used each quarter 7.577p from 25/11/2010
11.197p from 01/08/2011
Increase = 48%
GAS
For the first 670 kWh used each quarter 5.108p from 25/11/2010
7.918p from 01/08/2011
Increase = 55%
For the remaining kWh used each quarter 2.581p from 25/11/2010
3.630p from 01/08/2011
Increase = 41%
How can Scottish Power get away with misleading people with their press releases ?
Are other power companies the same ?

You were on a previously discounted tarriff that will be ending bringing your prices up to date with the current standard rates and then increased in line with the stated upcoming increases.
The press release contains an average increase accross all areas. Some areas increases will be more some areas will be less.
You should call them and find out what packages are available that would help you onto another discounted/fixed/capped tarriff that may allow you to avoid the price increase.0
